Meet Laura
Laura is passionate that no one goes through tough times alone. A core tenant of Laura’s practice is creating hope and change through the power of relationships. Therapy can involve uncomfortable conversations and difficult emotions; Laura strives to build a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe, valued, and heard. Laura uses a mix of bottom-up and top-down processing to tailor therapy to neurotypical and neurodivergent styles of learning.
In the counseling process, Laura invites clients to be curious about what past experiences and learned messages are getting in the way of the present and what strengths in the present can be cultivated and grown. Laura believes our coping skills are adapted from life experiences and that these skills can create stress when they no longer serve us. Her approach believes in the capacity of every individual and emphasizes collaboration to identify your goals and values in therapy. Laura understands that growth is not a linear path and a variety of strategies are explored to meet you where you are at; her approach strives to be realistic and practical. She hopes to build self-reflection, learn new ways of coping, and explore strategies to manage the challenges in your life.
What is one piece of advice that you would
give someone considering counseling?
“Be generous towards yourself! There is no one right way to “do therapy” or “win therapy” - and we can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to “get it right.” Therapy is a space where you can be fully human - warts and all. By practicing self-compassion, you can allow yourself to be more aligned with your needs to create meaningful and realistic change.’”
