When Appearance Matters: A Look Inside the New Brave Brand

At Brave, our mission is to provide you a safe, comfortable space to have conversations about the tough stuff. We believe that building relationships and familiarity makes it easier for our clients to be brave, and open up to us about the messiness in their lives.

Like all of you, Brave has gone through a lot in the past five years (especially the past fifteen months of a pandemic!). As we reflected back over what’s taken place since our inception, it became clear to us that our visuals and copy needed some refining to better express the BraveGR experience through our words, images, and website. We’ve updated our brand to reflect the same sense of familiarity, empowerment, and comfort that we hope you find in the Brave offices.

What is a brand, anyways? And why should it matter that we’ve updated ours?

We liked this definition from Hubspot: branding is the process of researching, developing, and applying a distinctive feature or set of features to your organization so that consumers can begin to associate your brand with your products or services. It matters because it helps make your business more relatable and memorable to customers (something we definitely aspire to!).

From this, the team at Brave set out to answer what makes us different from the zillions of other therapists or counselors located here in Grand Rapids. Why would you choose us over some of them?

We encapsulated that into one core idea:

For everyday people who are scared to ask for help because it often makes them feel less than or inadequate, Brave GR creates a space where there is a sense of familiarity through every stage of the process so that they can feel at ease.

Our brand rings true in our fonts, our photography, and our messaging - all of which were specifically chosen to evoke a sense of comfort and authenticity. We want you to feel our genuine welcome whether you engage with us first in our office (which was designed to feel like your best friend’s apartment), through our social media, our website, or by talking to one of our therapists directly or virtually. Keeping our branding consistent means that you’ll get the same Brave feeling no matter where and how you decide to interact with us, and we hope you’ll find that comforting.

You may not believe it, but branding and psychology go hand-in-hand. Let’s face it: not everyone is ready to be Brave, and that’s OK. Another part of what branding does is help us differentiate ourselves from our competition. We want you to immediately feel a sense of belonging when you discover us and say “YES! These people are like me!” We want our branding to help us sort out who’s that immediate match, and who might be better served with a practice elsewhere.

If you’re reading this and you’re connecting with our fresh, new website, and you’d like a listening ear to help you sort out the tough things in life, maybe it’s time you see if one of our therapists is a good fit for you. Reach out to us via the Contact page on our website and we’ll get back to you to schedule your first appointment. We can’t wait to help you be Brave!
